The Ex Files - 1. Thomas Buffel
Buffel was an Alex McLeish signing in the January 2005 transfer window for a fee of £2.3 million. He made his debut in a Scottish Cup defeat to Celtic but went onto help Rangers to 7-1 and 5-1 victories against Dundee United and Motherwell respectively in the league cup semi-final and final.
Other highlights in his Rangers career included helping the light blues achieve their 51st championship and helped the team to reach the last sixteen of the Uefa Champions League. Ultimately though a lot of his Rangers career was spoiled by injury.
Buffel had started his career off with Belgian sides Ruddervoorde and Cercle Brugge before winning a move to Dutch side Feyenoord in 1999. He spent some time at their feeder club Excelsior Rotterdam before coming a mainstay with Feyenoord between 2002-2005 before moving to Rangers.
After three years with Rangers, he moved back to his former club in Belgium, Cercle Brugge. However he only spent only one year with them before moving onto his current club RC Genk. He has been with Genk since August 2009.
Buffel has made 35 appearances for his country Belgium, scoring 6 goals. During his time with Rangers he played 62 times and scored 11 goals. He won one SPL medal and a league cup winners medal.
