Six Of The Best!
Dumbarton Football Stadium
Rangers' Scottish Championship season continued with a six-nil win against Dumbarton at the Dumbarton Football Stadium on Saturday as the Gers' New Year started with the promotion push given a further boost.
With half time approaching, but the scores still level at nil-nil, Kenny Miller opened the scoring three-minutes from half time from an Andy Halliday pass to send Rangers into the break one-up.
Miller added another two goals in five-minutes either side of the hour to complete his hat-trick; his first in five-years!
Martyn Waghorn made it four when set up by James Tavernier in the final 20-minutes with Halliday, available due to his sending off being appealed, adding the fifth in the final 10-minutes when his freekick was deflected past Dumbarton 'keeper Mark Brown with Tavernier hitting the sixth from distance two-minutes from time, this was a 25-yard drive that Brown had no chance with.
At nil-nil Dumbarton had a good chance to go ahead when 'keeper Wes Foderingham made a mess coming for Scott Taggart's freekick but Donald McCallum made equally as much of a mess of his attempted header with Miller then striking.
Once more, given this latest indifferent showing you can see why Rangers have brought in another 'keeper, Foderingham again got away with another unconvincing attempt to claim a cross but Jon Routledge couldn't punish him with the lead retained.
The second goal was in initially denied Rangers when Tavernier headed against the crossbar, with Miller unable to score the rebound but he then added to his goals to complete his hat-trick with the others following.
Did a starter, or someone from the bench, offer the most?
