Vital Report - Morton 0-4 Rangers

0 - 4

Cappielow Park

Attendance: 7,392

Rangers' Scottish Championship season continued with yet another win, as the Gers reacted to the League Cup defeat in midweek, at Cappielow Park against Morton on Sunday.

That's how you react to a first defeat of the season isn't it! Rangers were back to their dominant best with a Waghorn double and another from Tavernier having the Gers three-up against Morton at the break. Waghorn completed his hat-trick late on in a four-nil win to maintain the 100% Championship record!

Both sides were in League Cup action in the week, Rangers of course lost to St Johnstone with Morton beating Motherwell, but it was the Gers who had an early chance to go ahead when Oduwa was brought down by Forbes to end his run for a penalty.

Waghorn (12), the man who takes the penalty responsibilities, once again made no mistake from the penalty spot to give Rangers an early lad.

The hosts looked to level but when McKay found Waghorn (22), with him able to turn and finish, the striker made it two-nil 10-minutes later.

McKay himself could have made it three from a Oduwa cross with Forbes almost making up for the penalty he conceded with a freekick, which went just wide of Foderingham's post but after starting the move Tavernier (34) finished a counter attack for three! He looked suspiciously offside but it wasn't given.

Rangers might have been three-up but Morton kept having a go and had chances to get back into, with a first half hat-trick something Waghorn should have had but when the ball dropped to him but his finish was straight at Morton 'keeper Gaston with Foderingham saving from Tidser then the follow up from Johnstone.

The chances dried up in the second half but Waghorn (81) still completed his hat-trick when the ball dropped to him and lashed the ball into the roof of the net to collect the match ball and round off the scoring.

Shiels still had time to hit the post from distance as a fifth was sought but four was more than enough.
