Vital Report - Airdrie 0-5 Rangers
Rangers' Scottish League Cup run goes on after the thrashing at the Excelsior Stadium of Airdrie on Wednesday.
Three up in 15-minutes thanks to Clark, Halliday and Waghorn another couple in the final minutes from Shiels and Tavernier saw Rangers through to a comfortable five-nil win to book a place in round three for the Gers!
Always in complete control, with new Arsenal loanee signing Zelalem giving a debut, Rangers were ahead within minutes when Halliday's freekick was forced past Airdrie 'keeper Parry by Clark (5).
One became two some 10-minutes or so later as Rangers stamped their authority with Halliday (14) firing into the top corner from 25-yards, however not content with that it was three for the Gers a minute later when Zelalem, involved in the second goal too, crossed into Waghorn (15) to end settle the tie.
The only question that needed answers was 'how many would Rangers score!'
Waghorn and Oduwa, who continued to show his trickery as he had in the limited the Spurs loanee has been seen since his recent arrival, threatened with Halliday denied his second by the crossbar.
Airdrie had a couple of efforts at least in the second half but couldn't break through and, not that it was ever likely, any lingering doubts that Rangers wouldn't see this out were put to bed when Shiels (84), denied by Parry's initial save, followed up to score the rebound.
Tavernier's (88) fine start to life as a Rangers player saw the defender notch his latest goal with two-minutes to play to round of a convincing five-nil win against the League 1 side, once Scottish Premiership rivals of the Gers!
