Report: East Stirling (h)

5 - 1
East Stirlingshire

Sat 18.8.2012 / 3:00 PM

Attendance: 49,118

Rangers had a bigger attendance for their first home league game of the season than the whole of the SPL, div 1, 2 and 3 combined. 49118 turned up to Ibrox to watch Rangers beat East Stirlingshire 5-1 after the minnows had taken an early lead.

Quinn scored from the penalty spot in the third minute after captain Bocanegra fouled inside the box to silence the Ibrox crowd, and the little club maintained their lead for 12 minutes before on form Andy Little scored an equaliser. It was still 1-1 towards the end of the first half but Rangers were creating chance after chance and had it not been for the goalkeeper it could have been a cricket score. Little gave Rangers the lead in the 41st minute.

Rangers had 26 attempts in the game with 12 of them on target but could only manage a further three goals. Francisco Sandaza got in on the act in the 64th minute before Andy Little completed his hat-trick ten minutes later. Lee McCulloch who has been on fine scoring form himself rounded off the scoring a minute into injury time.

With all due respect to East Stirling, this is the kind of scoreline we should be expecting for home games, and despite an early scare, Rangers duly delivered the goods. It will be interesting to see if the fans turn up in these numbers every week but so far they have been great, a real credit to the club.
