After opening the season with two cup games, it was finally time for Rangers to make their debut in the Irn Bru Scottish Football League Third Division. First up a trip to Aberdeenshire to face Peterhead at Balmoor Stadium.
Peterhead were relegated from the second division last season and are hot favourites to go straight back up, well they were until Rangers came along the is. Rangers obviously will now be favourites but Peterhead will be one of their biggest rivals for promotion this season.
Any thoughts of going through a whole league season with a 100% league record were shot down in flames in the very first game after the match ended in a 2-2 draw. Rangers were actually very close to losing the game and had to rely on a late equaliser.
Rangers had taken the lead in the 27th minute thanks to a first senior goal for youngster Barrie McKay who showed great composure when through on the goalkeeper. It was a very dull game and there was no more goals in the first half.
Rangers were shell shocked when Peterhead got an equaliser in the 64th through McAllister but were even more shocked when in the 82nd minute McLaughlin gave the home side the lead. It looked like Rangers were facing up to an opening game defeat and headed for the bottom of Scottish football but they managed to get a 90th minute equaliser with Little scrambling the ball over the line after a great header from Kevin Kyle.
