Rangers are back at the top of the SPL where they belong after they beat Motherwell 3-0 and Celtic were beaten 1-0 at home by St Johnstone. Rangers were lying third behind their opponents Motherwell, and Celtic.

Ally McCoist made four changes to the side that lost 2-1 to Maribor on Thursday. Three Rangers youngsters got their chance from the start. Jordan McMillan, Ross Perry and Gregg Wylde all came in. Meanwhile Kyle Lafferty also started his first game of the season. Out were Kirk Broadfoot, Bocanegra, Maurice Edu and Lee McCulloch.

Rangers were by far the better team throughout the game with 55% possession overall, while Motherwell had not shots on target, however it was closely fought in the early going with Allan McGregor having to punch the ball clear from Hateley's corner, and Jelavic heading off target twice at the other end.

Kyle Lafferty then tested Motherwell goalkeeper Randolph but the keeper pulled off a great save to keep him out. Rangers were soon to take the lead though in the 20th minute. Nikica Jelavic got up well to head in a Steven Davis corner, but the Croatian couldn't claim the goal as it brushed off Naismith's head in the way into the net.

Motherwell thought they had equalised after Murphy put the ball into the back of the net, but referee Craig Thomson had noticed Murphy had used his arm to control the ball and disallowed the goal. Rangers went into the interval 2-0 up after Lafferty grabbed his first goal of the season in injury time. The big man crashed the ball in off the post after being set up by Ortiz.

Rangers were now firmly in control and had further chances to extend their lead with chances from Lafferty and Naismith. Humphrey almost pulled one back for Motherwell when his cross came off the crossbar. Rangers then got a third when Gregg Wylde who was about to be replaced ran down the left hand side and into the box before sending the ball past Randolph. It was a great goal from the youngster.

Wylde was replaced by Kerkar, then Jelavic made way for Healy. The Northern Irish striker making his first appearance for Rangers had a great effort late on which went just wide.

By "Murphy used his arm", I think you meant "the ball skelped off his arm and therefore the goal should have been allowed, because it's only a free kick if it's deliberate handball, regardless of the amount of advantage gained".
