Rangers edged closer to the SPL title last night with a comfortable 3-1 victory over Aberdeen at Ibrox. Rangers are now only two victories away from clinching the title. There are six games left to play, so for Rangers to not win two of these six, well it would have to be a miracle really.

There were no major surprises in the Rangers line-up. Danny Wilson continued to deputise for the injured Madjid Bougherra, while Maurice Edu started his second game on the trot at the expense of Kevin Thomson. Although Lafferty did come in for the off form Kris Boyd up front.

The opener came from Steven Davis in the 24th minute. The classy Northern Ireland midfielder fired in a sublime effort from about 25 yards giving Don's goalkeeper Jamie Langfield no chance. There were no more goals in the first half.

The second goal came from Kyle Lafferty, Steven Davis' Northern Ireland team-mate, and this was if anything was even better than Davis' first-half effort. The much criticised Lafferty dribbled his way through the Aberdeen midfield before placing the ball neatly into the net from just outside the area. Great goal, but was not sure about his celebration. It was a kind of Peter Crouch with a strange can opening motion at the end. I wonder how long he had been saving that one up?

Aberdeen got one back with about 20 minutes to go through Darren Mackie, which could have made for a nervy finish, however Rangers got back their two goal cushion back eight minutes later with the scrappiest goal of the game from Kenny Miller.

So, a comfortable win in the end and as I said, Rangers are now within touching distance of the championship. It looks like we won't get it until after the split although if Motherwell can do us a favour by beating Celtic at Parkhead on Tuesday then we could be clinching it at Tannadice on Wednesday.
