Playing the Kids Dun the Trick

1 - 3

Dens Park, Dundee

27th October 2009

Attendance: 10,654

Rangers negotiated their way through a tricky encounter against Dundee at Dens Park last night with a 3-1 win.

Steven Whittaker opened the scoring for Rangers with a header on the 15 minute mark. Rangers will be disappointed that from there, the foot came off the gas and Dundee equalised through a phenomenal Leigh Griffiths free-kick shortly before the half-hour mark. The home side then went on to dominate much of the second half and were unlucky not to take one of the many chances they created.

Three Murray Park kids started this game but it was a former Murray Park kids playing for the opposition that helped Rangers regain the lead. Gary McKenzie, the Dundee defender and former Rangers starlet who once partnered Frank de Boer at the heart of our defence needlessly placed a back-header into his own net after the keeper was left in no-mans land.

Rangers gradually came back into the game to regain control, and Nacho Novo set-up John Fleck on 85 who provided a neat finish.

A tricky tie well negotiated, and a good outing for the younger players. Papac and young Danny Wilson and centre-half were impressive, the Bosnian captaining the side and providing a calming influence for the youngsters. Wilson showed some great distribution of the ball and looks as though he can be relied upon again in future, especially given the injuries we have.
