Should Rangers` Hat-trick Hero Be Given The Nod By Murty?

Jason Cummings couldn`t do anything more to stake his claim for a start in the derby by scoring a hat-trick last week.

Graeme Murty acknowledged as much when he was asked about his team selection for the game:

'I am sure I will have a few people knocking on my door saying that they want to be involved and Jason Cummings will probably be at the front of that queue.'

For me, the ex Hibs striker still hasn`t done enough to convince that he deserves to start ahead of either Morelos or Windass. The Colombian has been excellent leading the line by himself this campaign, and his ability to hold up the ball, and occupy the opponent`s defenders is second to none in our squad.

Cummings meanwhile may be delivering the goals, all be it against inferior opposition, but you need to offer lot more than that in the derby. Work rate is key, and I know who I would pick in the starting XI.

There is also some who think we could start with both players on Sunday, but I think that would be very harsh on Josh who has made the number ten position his own since the change in manager. He deserves a chance to show that he can do it in a big game, and they don`t get any bigger than at the weekend.

I`ve got a sneaking suspicion too that Kenny Miller will come on in the second half simply because of the experience he can offer. He has so many goals in derbies that it would be a tough call to leave him out, even though he has struggled for both form and fitness this season.

In Old Firm clashes though, the form book goes out of the window, but we have a superb chance of closing the gap to just three points. If you had told me even a few months ago we`d be this close I wouldn`t have believed you, but it`s remarkable how things can change in football.

Personally, I believe our best chance of a victory will be to continue with the Morelos/Windass combination up top, with either Kenny or our no.26 coming off the bench late on if we need a goal. The competition for places since January has been great, and long may it continue.
