Rangers Set To Appeal Red Card?

Rangers Set To Appeal Red Card?

It's being reported this afternoon that Rangers intend to appeal the red card shown to midfielder Ryan Jack in this weekend's game against Aberdeen.

Having headed to Pittodrie on Sunday for the game, Rangers took a two one victory with goals from Danny Wilson and Josh Windass to take our second win of the campaign at their ground, and move into second place in the Premiership table.

We were forced to play over half an hour with ten men following Jack's second half dismissal following a clash with Stevie May. The 25 year old won the ball first, but then connected with May's ankle and the match day referee deemed it a straight red offence.

It's fair to say Jack is becoming slightly notorious with referees for red cards, this was his fourth since joining the club over the summer - having only been shown three reds in his career prior to that - however two of this season's dismissals in games against Hibernian and Kilmarnock were subsequently overturned.

It lends itself to the obvious question is he being judged on the tackle or the name he seems to have amongst referees?

According to Sky Sports Rangers plan on appealing this dismissal although I can find no confirmation of this yet.

Caretaker gaffer Graeme Murty is his post game press conference with the Official Site did indicate his displeasure with the decision though.

'I have a view on the red card, I think Ryan got to the ball before Stevie even though I thought it was just going to be a tackle and he tried to play the ball. I am disappointed for Ryan on his return, I thought it was harsh on him. But I am proud of the way the team stood up and stuck together when they were challenged in that way.'

Should the appeal not be successful, Jack will serve a three match ban seeing him miss out on games against Ross County, Hibernian and St Johnstone as the fixture list stands.
