Partick Was A Team Performance - Alnwick

Goalkeeper Jak Alnwick has spoken of his disappointment at conceding the last minute goal against Partick Thistle in regulation time to send the match into an extra 30 minutes, but he played down his own contribution last night, preferring instead to focus in on the team performance that saw us to a three one victory at Firhill.

Speaking to the Official Site following our Scottish League Cup quarter final victory, the 24 year old explained.

'It is mixed feelings, we are delighted that we are through and that is obviously the whole point of this competition but we are a bit disappointed with the way we played. It shouldn`t have had to go that far, we should have killed it off in the 90 minutes but I don`t think we played well enough to do that. At the end of the day we are through and that is the main thing.'

Asked about his own performance on the day, he went on to say.

'Obviously I am happy but it is not about me, I will say it over and over again but it is about the team and about the team getting to the semi-finals. I thought the lads in front of me were excellent, young Ross coming on as well and I thought they were all fantastic and if I have to make the odd save then that is what I`m there for. I can`t even think back to remember all my saves tonight, the best was probably from Conor Sammon`s header in the first-half, it is a last ditch thing. Every save is a good save and I am just delighted that we are through.'

'I got a bit of a taste of Hampden when we had the Scottish Cup semi-final last season and I was on the bench and I always said I wanted to play there. It`s about getting to Hampden and then when you are in the last four you never know what could happen - hopefully we can get to the final.'

With the game being his third start in the shirt following his arrival last January, Alnwick went on to say he wasn't too upset over his lack of game time but he was glad to have been handed the reigns for this competition.

'It is always nice to do my part and it is up to the manager what he does but it is down to me to keep doing what I am doing for the team. I have done what I needed to do tonight. It is a big game on Saturday, we have got to recover well and this week is a process, this is one step of it out of the way by getting through to the semis.'
