Tavernier - We Want To Start Quickly
James Tavernier has been in front of the media this week speaking about how he feels Rangers are a more attacking side under Pedro Caixinha.
On the back of the defeat to Hiberian, Tavernier obviously found the net in that game, as well as the Dunfermline clash and he has equalled his goal tally for last campaign and he says key to that has been the way Rangers try and start matches and of course the cover he gets when going forward from Ryan Jack and Graham Dorrans.
Speaking to the Official Site as we head towards this weekend's game against Hearts, 25 year old Tavernier explained.
'I obviously want to assist the lads as much as I can and if I can get on the scoresheet then happy days. My main aim is always to keep a clean sheet but we do have that really good cover coming from Jacko and Dorrans behind us if one of the full-backs does go forward. You will see the team not get as exposed as we maybe have done for the past couple of seasons. It is a good way moving forward.'
Tavernier went on to say.
'The football that we`re playing is a bit more fluent compared to last year. We have been starting well and for my goals against Hibs I was playing right wing-back which allows me to be a bit more advanced up the pitch. Our team is really evolving, the moments we are attacking the lads are defending and we have the players to come in and cover. We have really worked hard on that and it will only show through the season.'
With stronger starts to matches this campaign in many ways owing to Pedro Caixinha's style of play, the full back went on to add.
'We have been out the blocks very quickly and have put teams under pressure straight away. We did get off to a great start on Saturday; Kenny hit the post and just put it wide too. We`re getting off to great starts so we just need to continue that and make those moments last longer.'
'You can`t go through a full 90 minutes with the same tempo you start a game but you are hoping that in the first 20 or 30 minutes you can notch a couple of goals then you can control the game. Then we can get to the point where we are controlling the game so it is a matter of scoring early if we do get out the blocks quickly and then maintain it after that.'
