Rangers To Rename Stand In Sandy's Honour

Rangers To Rename Stand In Sandy's Honour

Following the passing of Sandy Jardine in April of this year, Rangers are to pay a lasting tribute to the man by renaming the Govan Stand in his honour.

The club legend lost his fight against cancer but has remained in the hearts and minds of many following his association with the club and of course when he returned to the club following his years as a player, he was based in the offices of the Govan so it's particular fitting to mark his 50 year link with us.

The dedication to him will be in place for the opening league game of the season in the Championship which is against a former side of his Hearts and his family will be guests of honour of the club on the day.

Sandy's widow Shona said to the Official Site.

'My husband considered it a great honour and huge privilege to represent Rangers and I know he was extremely proud to receive this lasting tribute from the club he loved.'

Chief Executive Graham Wallace explained.

'Sandy Jardine epitomised everything that is good about Rangers. He was a man of principle and class and his contribution throughout his career both on and off the pitch was truly incredible. His achievements are unlikely to be seen again in the modern game and this is a truly fitting way to honour Sandy's memory. The re naming of the Govan Stand will be a permanent tribute to a man who gave everything for Rangers.'
