Daly Undergoes Surgery

Striker Jon Daly today went under the surgeon's knife on the advice of the specialist he saw in order to clear up the injury that niggled him at the end of last season.

With manager Ally McCoist confirming that they hoped rest and recuperation would see the striker clear of the problem, and whilst that looked to have done the trick for the 31 year old, the issue again reared it's head a few days into our training return and a specialist appointment was booked.

The result of that was the recommendation that he underwent a quick procedure to tidy up his cartilage in his knee, and although it does now rule him out until the game against Hearts, it's hoped his will be back in contention shortly after that.

Speaking to the Official Site McCoist explained.

'It's a real shame. Big Jon was fantastic for us last year as he scored 25 goals. Towards the end of the season, we would have given him a little rest if we could have but personnel indicated we couldn't. With Andy Little injured, he was our only striker at points and to be fair to him, he kept turning up and playing for us.'

The gaffer goes on to say that having decided to send him to a scan, the cartilage clean up was the advice, so the club sent him to the surgeon who did the same job on his other knee and obviously it's a blow to the club and player ahead of our Championship campaign because he is now likely to be out for six weeks.

It's one of those things that simply had to be done though so it could be sorted.
