Great Start For Gallagher

19 year old double Buckie goalscorer Calum Gallagher has admitted that last night couldn't have gone much better for him.

Giving us a two goal advantage before the more experienced Kenny Miller killed the game off with a third shortly before full time, Gallagher knows that short of grabbing himself a hattrick, he couldn't have much of a better start in terms of laying down a marker for pre season and trying to impress himself on manager Ally McCoist.

Speaking to the Official Site following the 3-0 victory over Buckie Thistle, he explained.

'It's definitely not a bad thing for me to score twice and if I could have picked a way to start I'd have done it the way I did. The biggest thing for everyone tonight was just getting back into action again and getting our fitness up.'

Gallagher joins the first team squad this season, being too old now to be registered for Gordon Durie's U20 squad which seems daft given he's 19, but the gaffer has given him the challenge of rising to the occasion and doing all he can to hold down a regular place in the match day squad, and the youngster is relishing the opportunity now available to him.

'I'm really enjoying pre season. It's my first one away with the team and we've come away to a lovely place we wouldn't normally see. I'm loving training with the first team and the staff and hopefully I can push on from here. I like to play further forward (through the middle not the wing position he took last night) but anywhere I can play would be great. If I can score more goals too that's a bonus and hopefully I can keep a tally going and work my way from there.'

As for the game, he admits that it did take everyone a while to get going, and he certainly includes himself in that describing his opening 20 minute spell as being 'horrible' so he was delighted when he could make up for that by not only improving his performance, but also contributing with the two goals.

On to the next one now and hopefully another productive run out for everyone involved.
