Ally McCoist has picked out Jon Daly for special praise after he picked up his 14th goal of the season in the win against Airdrie in the third round of the Scottish Cup last Friday evening.
The striker scored a brace in the game and grabbed his 13th and 14th goal of the campaign on the night, and whilst McCoist was obviously delighted to see us progress in another Cup competition this season, he couldn't not praise Daly for how he's began life at Rangers.
Speaking to the Official Site McCoist said he was genuinely delighted for the player to continue his scoring run because he's a good lad, and he always gives his all so anything he gets in terms of success on a football field he has more than earnt.
'His first goal was a great finish, he takes a touch and curls it, and that's the kind of goal you expect from the big fella. It's another two goals to his tally and I know he sets himself targets, so hopefully he's well on the way to reaching and maybe even surpassing them.'
McCoist says despite his fantastic goal scoring start to life at the club since joining us in the off season, he still believes there is a lot more to come from the player in terms of his overall contribution, but McCoist admits he's not going to start demanding more from him, when he's already doing enough as it is.
As for Daly, the 30 year old commented following the game that it's another example of how mature he feels the current Rangers squad are because the match against Airdrie was another example of where we had to be patient in the game before we got the breakthrough that we wanted.
'The manager said we'd need to be patient and a lot of teams are getting men behind the ball. They're making it difficult and making it hard for us to play through them.'
Obviously it took until the second half again before we took the advantage, but we did have chances in the first half. Bottom line is though teams have seen how we have started the campaign, and aren't allowing themselves to be as open.
Victories earlier in the season may have come more easily, but it's victories like this that are even sweeter really as we truly earn them, and we see what the team are capable of when they don't get their own way, which clearly can only bode well for the future.
As for his brace in the match, Daly is as modest as ever saying the only thing that matters is that Rangers pick up the win again, and in this case, progress further in another cup, but he wasn't going to allow the interview to end without heaping praise on the service he's getting from his colleagues.
Yes he has to get in the positions to make them count, but if he wasn't getting the deliveries and assists he wouldn't be scoring and he more than appreciates and acknowledges that.
