Ramsdens Challenge Opens With Albion Rovers

Rangers will begin this seasons Ramsden Cup challenge with a game against Albion Rovers in the first round.

The game will take place at Cliftonhill Park on July 27.

This will be our first visit to Coatbridge since August 1978.

Following the announcement of the first round tie, Dean Shiels spoke to the Official Site and said he was targeting this match for his return from injury.

The Northern Ireland international has been out since March after damaging his medial knee ligaments in the game against Annan and he's been woring hard since then to return to fitness so he can get back to playing as soon as he can.

It's expected he'll be back in full training in only a few weeks, so he's hoping to be contention for the Ramsdens Cup game.

The 28 year old said.

'It has been touch, mentally and physically, but I think I'm on the final stretch now. I've started running again and I've been working really hard with the physio so I'm doing alright and hopefully not that far away. The aim is to play in the first game of the season if I can.'

He says his knees are still very fragile and tender at the moment, but he knows that will ease off as he continues building his strength and he is noticing improvement on a daily basis so all is good.

He also says it would've been good to have the first round at Ibrox, but Rangers will just have to go and win it away from home instead.
