Rangers sign Kris Boyd

Rangers sign Kris Boyd

Rangers have completed the signing of Kilmarnock hitman Kris Boyd for a fee just short of £500,000.

Earlier in the week the move looked doubtful as Rangers' bid of £250,000 was rejected by Killie who had already accepted a £500,000 bid from Sheffield Wednesday.

Boyd however had no intentions of signing for a club who are struggling in the Championship and wasn't prepared to play at a lower level at this stage in his career.

Rangers upped their offer though and Kilmarnock happily accepted it knowing that if they rejected it he could leave for FREE in the summer. They have negotiated a sell on clause so if Boyd leaves Rangers they will get a slice of the transfer fee.

The 22 year old striker who is the leading SPL scorer so far this season with 15 goals passed his medical with flying colours on Thursday and was unveiled at a press conference on Friday.

Boyd now has Christmas off as he has to sit out Rangers' games until January 1st. He is likely to make his debut against Peterhead in the Tennent's Scottish Cup third round clash on January 7th.

Rangers have tied up Boyd until the summer of 2009 and the lifelong Rangers fan who is delighted to be at Ibrox said: 'I was at the game at Ibrox as Rangers qualified for the last 16 of the Champions League and to have the chance of playing is fantastic. It's fantastic to finally sign for the club. There has been a lot of speculation in recent weeks and I'm really pleased that it is now all done and dusted.'

There is sure to be more comings and goings at Ibrox between now and the end of January with Stephen Thomson rumoured to be on the way out along with on loan strikers Francis Jeffers and Federico Nieto.

Rangers have today been linked with a move for young Hibernian midfielder Scott Brown. A move which in my opinion would be great for the club as he is one of the best young talents in the SPL at the moment.
