Gers confirm Le Guen as boss

Rangers have tonight ended weeks of speculation by confirming Frenchman Paul Le Guen as their new manager, taking over from Alex McLeish at the end of the season.

Le Guen has signed a three year contract and will bring with him his trusted assistant Yves Colleu. Le Guen who played for clubs in France such as Paris Saint Germain and was capped for his country led Lyon to three championships in a row before quitting last summer to take time out from football.

He was the subject of many management offers including Lazio, Lokomotiv Moscow and Dinamo Kiev. He also attracted interest from the likes of Real Madrid and Newcastle.

In the end though he was won over by Rangers and will bring his family over to Scotland at the end of the season.

Speaking on the official Rangers site today Le Guen said: 'I am looking forward to the challenge at Rangers, I received a number of interesting offers from major clubs around Europe, but this move to Scotland was the right one for me and my family.'

This move will be an exciting move for Rangers fans and the move that they so badly wanted. With the deal with JJB announced earlier in the week it is an exciting time at Ibrox and a new era could be about to begin.

The Frenchman has been spending his time off from management working with a television station in France but it will be down to serious business at the end of May and no doubt he will already be watching possible transfer targets and also watching his current squad in SPL action.

Great news, it was the worst kept secret in football but good to get it confirmed all the same.
